County Commission Hears Testimony On Tecumseh Recreational Area Use, Defers Vote

Commissioners Sanction Testimony, Defer Action. (WIBW) - Shawnee County Commissioners deferred decision on a contentious permit put in for for a Tecumseh property that could bring in big crowds for motocross events. Commissioner Ted Ensley on Monday morning motioned to put off a vote on a conditional use permit for an outdoor recreational facility to May 17, allowing commissioners "time to ponder the information," he said. The facility is located on land owned by Greg Bender, at the southwest corner of SE 37th Drive and SE Woodring Road in Tecumseh Township. About 80 to 100 people packed Room 409 at the Shawnee County Courthouse, which was habituated to for today's meeting in anticipation of the large crowd. Seven people spoke in favor of the permit solicitation Greg Bender represented, while 20 people, mostly residents, spoke out against it during more than two hours of public hearing.
